Aurorachana (unit under the Auroville Foundation)
has been fully involved in the restoration and manufacturing of furniture for over 30 years now.
Working with architects and designers in India and
around the world. For the past years specializing in
wooden handicrafts, contemporary designs, antique furniture and colonial reproductions. Furnishing of
hotels, interior designers and producing affordable
furniture for Auroville residence.
The company, managed by German-born Aurovillian
Coco (Mrs. Gruttmann) from her residence at Aurorachana (unit of the Auroville Foundation) which is situated on
the fringe of the Auroville international township, employs
a staff of 16 people.
They specialize in the furniture restoration and
upholstery in cloth and leather. Making also high-quality reproduction items on request.
Environmental protection and sustainability
Work is done mostly using old seasoned teakwood and
other timbers salvaged from original furniture, and
old buildings, thereby retaining the authentic ‘feel’
and quality of each item.
Final oiling is done using imported decking oil from Burma wax to give a high-quality finish and lasting
effect. In addition to delivery anywhere in India,
the company operates an efficient import-export
service.
In addition to furniture, Aurorachana also deals in a wide range of artifacts in brass and other metals, plus ceramic, pottery and earthenware.

Our modern furniture is handmade with passion from
old and new wood. They come from our own workshop
and fit in every house.
We work with antique woods, mainly teak, not only to protect the environment, but we love to preserve the old wood's charm and give it new life.
